BACKING TARNEIT’S GROWING COMMUNITY

25 October 2022

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering social and cultural projects that matter most in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing suburbs.

Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly today announced $1 million funding for seven Tarneit Suburban Revitalisation Board projects.

After the success of the inaugural Firefly Market in 2022, the Labor Government will provide $250,000 towards the 2023 Market including a major event to celebrate multicultural Tarneit, as well as $100,000 for additional events including Meet me in Tarneit activities, outdoor cinema, and concerts.

The Labor Government will also help the community get active through a $110,000 investment in Active Tarneit to support a range of sports and fitness activities across the suburb, while a further $150,000 will help co-design Pine Park in consultation with the community.

In recognition of Tarneit’s rich multicultural diversity, $200,000 will support Rise Up youth events, a large-scale showcase of Pacific arts and culture, with another $120,000 for an intergenerational taskforce to create community building initiatives to support young people in Tarneit.

Local businesses will be showcased and supported with networking opportunities at the Tarneit Business Expo for which the Labor Government will provide a $70,000 investment.

The projects will be delivered in partnership with key local organisations including Wyndham City Council, the Pasifika Community of Australia, the Tarneit Business Association, YLAB and Reclink.

Since 2016, the Labor Government has invested more than $45 million in 218 projects, including $3.5 million in the last two years in Tarneit.
