LAND ACQUIRED FOR TRUGANINAS NEW FIRE BRIGADE STATION

15 March 2021

Volunteer firefighters at the Truganina Country Fire Authority (CFA) will soon have a permanent new home, with the CFA securing land to build a modern, state-of-the-art fire station.

Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly today announced a contract had been signed for a newly acquired site at Leakes Road in Tarneit.

The Victorian Government has invested a total of $3.75 million towards a permanent station for Truganina Fire Brigade, providing $1.5 million towards the purchase of the land and $2.25 million towards building construction.

The CFA, which contributed $460,000 from its capital works program towards the purchase of the land, expects to see construction works begin at the site in July.

Once built, the new permanent station will be a welcome new home for Truganina’s dedicated volunteer brigade, which has been helping to keep communities safe in Melbourne’s west since 1940.

The new station will allow the 70-member brigade to better serve the fast-growing surrounding community with enhanced volunteer facilities and features designed to improve response times, as well as easing pressure on surrounding brigades.

In 2017, the Victorian Government identified that Truganina and Wyndham Vale fire brigades were two volunteer brigades on Melbourne’s fringe in need of their own permanent fire stations.

The two stations have since received a total of $7.5 million to acquire land and build permanent, modern fire stations as part of the government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution fund.

Over the past six years, Truganina Fire Brigade has benefited from more than $54,000 of Victorian Government investments through the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP).

This has included recent funding of $46,667 towards the brigade’s purchase of a $70,000 field command vehicle (FCV) and more than $7,500 towards a thermal imaging camera to assist on-the-ground firefighting efforts.
