TRANSFORMING TARNEIT’S NIGHTSCAPE WITH LIGHT AND DESIGN

11 August 2022

Light and design are pride of place in Tarneit’s nightscape, thanks to a revitalisation project that has transformed a prominent water tower into an artistic beacon of animation and illumination.

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting local Suburban Revitalisation projects in Wyndham City Council through a three-year investment.

Member for Tarneit and Chair of the Tarneit Suburban Revitalisation Board  Sarah Connolly tonight opened the Cowies Hill Water Tower Lighting.

The project has delivered lighting of the water tower, visible 360 degrees across Tarneit, using changeable coloured lighting and lighting projection. It’s creating a sight that is making locals proud and bringing the community together.

The Labor Government has provided $150,000 to the Cowies Hill Water Tower Lighting project and Wyndham Council has contributed $10,000.

The project has been delivered by Wyndham City Council in partnership with the Tarneit Suburban Revitalisation Board, which provides advice to the Victorian Government on ways to renew the local area. Greater Western Water and Melbourne Water have also been involved in the successful delivery of the project.

The Suburban Revitalisation Program is supporting eight activity centres across Metropolitan Melbourne including Boronia, Broadmeadows, Frankston, Lilydale, Melton, Noble Park, Reservoir, and Tarneit.

The program works with regional and local stakeholders to help plan and deliver economic, infrastructure, community development and place-making initiatives that focus on driving social and economic outcomes in those suburbs.

The Victorian Budget 2022/23 allocated $9.7 million to support the work of the eight Suburban Revitalisation Boards for a further year. This is in addition to funding of $21.25 million provided in 2020/21 and 2021/22.

The Government is revitalising surburbs to strengthen Melbourne’s liveability and drive economic opportunity and jobs growth closer to where people live. For more information about Suburban Revitalisation go to suburbandevelopment.vic.gov.au.
